DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Rick’s 50 Years in Public Broadcasting with This Touching Retrospective and Talk-Back | Sold Out! \n\n\n\nIn July of 1976\, during the nation’s Bicentennial\, RICK SEBAK began his career in public broadcasting with a station in South Carolina. It’s quite poetic\, therefore\, that we get to help Rick celebrate his half century in public broadcasting during the 250th birthday of the good old U.S. of A! Rick’s colorful career brought him from SC to his permanent home at Pittsburgh’s WQED\, and includes a myriad of unusual TV shows and slightly wacky documentaries that showcase the various aspects of modern life as well as Pittsburgh’s unexpected charms. Rick will showcase some of his favorite moments with a video scrapbook pulled from his extensive library along with an intimate talk-back and Q&A. Proceeds from this program benefit WQED and The Strand. \n\n\n\n\n\nAudiences enjoy Rick’s friendly narrative style and the unusual topics that he obviously loves. Rick’s extensive body of work includes working with the Engineers Society of Western PA on a local program called Invented\, Engineered & Pioneered in Pittsburgh\, about our region’s long history and continuing prominence in many aspects of engineering\, to a national show for PBS titled A Ride Along The Lincoln Highway about the history and charms of America’s first coast-to-coast highway. His topics have famously included flea markets\, Pittsburgh’s Strip District\, “Sandwiches That You Will Like”\, pre-Disney amusement parks\, sporting events unique to Da ‘Burgh\, and\, of course\, the fan-favorite\, Things That Aren’t There Anymore. \n\n\n\nA satire site posted a joke recently\, “Rick Sebak Retires Due Running Out of Things to Document”. We all know that could never happen. His penchant for finding unique and intriguing aspects of life in Pittsburgh and around the country is a deep well that will never be capped! \n\n\n\nAt The Strand\, we are thrilled to welcome this local legend of storytelling as he presents an intimate retrospective of his incredible career. Rick will be sharing some video clips from his seemingly endless supply of TV shows\, favorite stories from the road\, and offering a talk-back and Q&A. High flying frisbee\, box high jump\, agility\, hoop tricks\, jump roping\, dynamic routines to music\, fantastic costumes\, colorful props and so much more! \n\n\n\nIt all began with two girls\, 15 dogs and a dream. Cirque du Canines is the collaboration of former Ringling touring performer\, Gail Mirabella\, and longtime trick dog performer\, Michelle Harrell\, who share a vision for what a dog circus should look and feel like. \n\n\n\nGail and Michelle have combined their talents\, their dogs and their ideas to create an exciting performance for the stage. These dogs are their family\, their lives and their stars. \n\n\n\n\n\nGail Mirabella\, formerly a Ringling Bros touring performer\, brings a variety of breeds to the show. Specializing in Frisbee\, Box high Jump\, agility and a variety of dog tricks. Michelle Harrell\, affectionately called\, Poodle Mama\, brings the Poodle troupe to the stage. Providing fast moving routines to music\, barrel rolling\, hoop jumping\, magic trick and dog dancing. \n\n\n\n\nAlyssa Grubs\, a former US Army Medic\, brings her dedication\, discipline and amazing skills to the show. With a one of a kind 3 dog trick and balance routine that brings down the house. The creative team takes pride in bringing an outstanding\, energetic and uplifting performance to the stage. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe performance features a variety of dog breeds\, dynamic frisbee\, high box jump\, fun tricks\, agility\, hoop jumping\, dog dancing\, plenty of audience participation\, great music\, and colorful props & costumes. \n\n\n\nIf you’re looking for a fantastic\, family-friendly event that’s fun for all ages\, don’t miss Cirque Du  Canines!
