La La Land
Friday - Sunday April 28 - 30, 2017
Starring Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone

La La Land is a delightful throwback film, not only resurrecting the classic movie musical, but giving nods to the lost genre in the process.  In fact, the score to the movie was recorded in the same studio as other MGM gems like Singin' in the Rain and countless others.

Mia (Stone), an aspiring actress, serves lattes to movie stars in between auditions.  Sebastian (Gosling), a jazz musician, scrapes by playing cocktail party gigs in dingy bars.  As success begins to mount, they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair.  The dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other now threaten to rip them apart.

La La Land is the only film in Academy history to be incorrectly awarded an Oscar. Upon presenting Best Picture, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway named La La Land as the winner, only to be corrected by Oscar producers 2 minutes later. It was discovered that Beatty was incorrectly handed the Best Actress envelope and that Moonlight was the actual winner of the award.

It is the first movie shot entirely on film to earn an Academy Award for Best Cinematography since Inception (2010) won six years prior.

In La La Land Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling have a scene at Griffith Observatory. In the movie Gangster Squad both are having a romantic walk outside of the Griffith Observatory.
