The Crazies
Friday ONLY! September 27   9:00pm
Starring Lane Carroll, Will MacMillan & Harold Wayne Jones

In partnership with the Living Dead Weedkend festival in Evans City, The Strand proudly presents one of George Romero's cult classics, including celebrity guest appearances by original members of the cast & crew.

A biological weapon gone awry is only the start of problems in the little town of Evan's City. Bouts of insanity in the populace are leading to murder and rioting, until the US Army turns up - and things really start to fall apart.

Cast members scheduled to appear: Richard France and Lynn Lowry.

8:00pm - Box Office Open
8:30pm - Doors to Auditorium Open
9:00pm - Cast & Crew on Stage for Commentary & Q&A
9:30pm - Film begins

Just like Romero's quintessential zombie film, Night of the Living Dead, The Crazies was filmed in Evans City, as well as Zelienople and Seneca Valley High School and Connoquenessing. Many of the movie's bit players were locals; several of the white-suited soldiers were actually high-school students.

The budget for The Crazies was approximately $270,000 and it was Romero's first Union film but he also employed a lot of actors from Pittsburgh and non-professionals from Evans City and Zelienople.

No Hollywood stunt men were used in The Crazies. Local firemen and licensed fireworks professionals handled all of the action sequences, including the creation and employment of blood squibs.

The burning house at the beginning of the film was a bit of serendipity for the film's crew. The local fire department was burning down an old house to practice putting out the fire, and agreed to let the filmmakers set up and film the event.
