SUMMARY:White Christmas | Dec 3-6
DESCRIPTION:Starring Bing Crosby\, Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney \n\n\n\nEnjoy one of the most popular Christmas movies every produced back on The Strand’s enormous 30′ screen in true digital HD and 39 speaker surround-sound! \n\n\n\nA successful song-and-dance team become romantically involved with a sister act and team up to save the failing Vermont inn of their former commanding general. \n\n\n\nThere is an ongoing misperception that the Irving Berlin classic\, White Christmas\, first appeared in this namesake film. In fact\, the beloved tune was already 12 years old\, having first been sung by Bing Crosby in Holiday Inn from 1942. The song also appeared in Blue Skies from 1946. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis film was supposed to be a sequel to Holiday Inn. The plan was to reunite Crosby with co-star\, Fred Astaire\, but Astaire turned it down\, as he had temporarily “retired” at the time. Donald O’Connor was cast as Crosby’s co-star\, in what was hoped to be a reprise of his successful dance partnership with Vera-Ellen from Call Me Madam (1953). But while filming Francis Joins the WACS (1954)\, O’Connor contracted a severe bout of Q-Fever from his co-star\, Molly (who played Francis the Talking Mule)\, and had to pull out. Danny Kaye was cast as a last minute replacement. \n\n\n\nAccording to Danny Kaye in a TV documentary on Bing Crosby aired after Crosby’s death\, Crosby was initially glum during filming\, having just lost his wife Dixie. Kaye decided to try and lighten Crosby up by improvising the vamp during the “Sisters” number in which he repeatedly hits Crosby in the stomach with his blue feather fan. Crosby broke up and his laughter in the film is genuine. Kaye said that afterwards Crosby seemed more relaxed and more ready to join in the fun. \n\n\n\n\nWhite Christmas \n\n\n\nThursday\, December 3\, 7:30PM Friday & Saturday\, December 4 & 5\, 7:00PM Sunday\, December 6\, 2:00PM \n\n\n\n1954 | Unrated | 2 Hours \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets

SUMMARY:Baby\, It's Cold Outside!
DESCRIPTION:A Christmas Toast To Dean Martin & Marilyn Monroe | \n\n\n\nDIRECT FROM LAS VEGAS! Two of the best in the business\, Susan Griffiths & Andy DiMino\, return to bring Strand audiences an unforgettable concert with a yuletide theme….. A Christmas Toast to Marilyn Monroe and Dean Martin! \n\n\n\nFrom such well known songs as That’s Amore\, Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime\, I Wanna be Loved by You\, Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend\, audiences will be charmed by the unmistakable chemistry between Andy’s ‘Dean’ and Susan’s ‘Marilyn’! \n\n\n\n\n\nBut that’s not all! To kick off the holiday season\, this delightful pair will be adding many of your favorite holiday hits to their repertoire\, from Dino classics like Winter Wonderland\, I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm and Rudolph\, the Red Nosed Reindeer to Marilyn favorites like Santa Baby and What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve\, and of course\, the delightful duet\, Baby It’s Cold  Outside! \n\n\n\nThis pair will take you back to the days of Vegas in the 1950’s\, sharing stories and anecdotes about two of the world’s most famous icons. Their performances will bring Marilyn and Dean to life in both story and song. \n\n\n\nThe kittenish  Susan Griffiths is THE Marilyn of Marilyns. She appeared in the 1994 film Pulp Fiction and starred in the 1991 TV movie  Marilyn & Me. Griffiths also appeared in her Monroe persona in the TV series Nip/Tuck\, and has many other TV roles to her credit. She has posed in countless photos as the platinum blonde bombshell\, and most notably appeared on a giant video screen nightly while Sir Elton John performed Candle in the Wind  during his Red Piano live concert. \n\n\n\nStrand audiences are already big fans of Andy DiMino\, who joined Sebastian Anzaldo and Ambus Dean\, and later adding Susan\, for the fan-favorite Toast to the Rat Pack shows that have played to packed houses and very enthusiastic audiences for many years!  But Andy was a true standout among the group. Audiences were floored by his incredible similarities in voice and appearance! \n\n\n\nAndy was drawn to Dean Martin’s relaxed style of singing and began  collecting CDs\, videos\, and books on the Rat Pack icon\, collecting for 5 years before he ever put on a tux and donned that famous cigarette. Andy’s role as Dean was best described by an industry insider as: “He really has the manner\, presence and voice of Dino down pat.” Andy appeared in hundreds of shows in Las Vegas\, Atlantic City and all over the world! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBABY\, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE \n\n\n\nA CHRISTMAS TOAST TO \n\n\n\nDEAN MARTIN & MARILYN MONROE \n\n\n\nLIVE ON STAGE! \n\n\n\nSATURDAY ONLY! \n\n\n\n\nNOVEMBER 28 \n\n\n\n2 SHOWS! \n\n\n\n2:00pm & 7:00pm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets\n\n\n\n\nTo arrange for handicapped accessible seating\, please call The Strand Box Office at 724.742.0400. SUMMARY:The Polar Express
DESCRIPTION:Featuring the voice of Tom Hanks \n\n\n\nThe Strand proudly brings back the beloved animated film that has become a yuletide tradition. A young boy embarks on a magical adventure to the North Pole on the Polar Express. During his adventure he learns about friendship\, bravery\, and the spirit of Christmas. \n\n\n\nThe film used 3D motion capture techniques to digitally record the physical performances of the actors before “skinning” them with their animated forms. All the children’s roles were acted by adults using oversized props to get the movement right.  In fact\, The Polar Express is listed in the Guiness Book of World Records 2006 as the “first all-digital capture” film\, where all acted parts were done in digital capture. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhen the Hero Boy first meets the Hobo on the roof of the train\, he is playing the carol “Good King Wenceslas.” The story of Saint Wenceslas I\, Duke of Bohemia is that of a king braving the harsh winter to bring alms to the poor on the Feast of Stephan\, December 26th. His page finds he can’t go on through the harsh conditions and is directed to walk in the footprints that the king has made in the snow. The Hobo directs Hero Boy to follow behind him and ultimately helps him reach the engine before they make it to the tunnel\, thus allowing him to find and help his friend. This is also a representation of the Holy Spirit idea of the Hobo\, that he guides those who believe in Him to safety\, even in perilous times. \n\n\n\n\nThe Polar Express \n\n\n\nFriday\, November 27\, 7:30pm \n\n\n\nSunday\, November 29\, 2:00pm \n\n\n\n2004 | Rated G | 1Hr 40 Min \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets

DESCRIPTION:Starring JoBeth Williams\, Heather O’Rourke\, & Craig T. Nelson \n\n\n\nA family’s home becomes the center of paranormal activity that opens a doorway to the “other side.” With help\, they must cross over to get their daughter back. \n\n\n\nBoth of the terrors that plague Robbie came from Steven Spielberg’s own fears as a child: a fear of clowns and a tree outside his window. \n\n\n\n\n\nDrew Barrymore was considered for the role of Carol Anne\, but producer Steven Spielberg wanted someone “more angelic.” Barrymore’s audition ultimately landed her the part of Gertie in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982). \n\n\n\nThe film was originally given an R rating\, from the Motion Picture Association (MPA) due to scenes of a child in peril despite little gore in the film. The rating was lowered to ‘PG’ on appeal. The film predates the PG-13 rating by two years which is the rating this film would have most certainly gotten without issues \n\n\n\n\nPoltergeist \n\n\n\nFriday\, October 30\, 7:00pm \n\n\n\nSunday\, November 1\, 2:00pm \n\n\n\n1982 | PG | 1hr 54min \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets

SUMMARY:Practical Magic
DESCRIPTION:Starring Sandra Bullock\, Nicole Kidman\, Stockard Channing \n\n\n\nTwo witch sisters\, raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town\, face closed-minded prejudice and a curse which threatens to prevent them ever finding lasting love. \n\n\n\nThe name of Sally’s botanical shop is “Verbena”. Verbena is a flowering plant that has long been associated with divine and supernatural forces. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe film received mixed reviews from critics\, who found the film’s combination of different genres\, including supernatural fantasy\, domestic abuse drama\, romantic comedy\, and crime procedural\, to be jarring. It has since gained a cult following. \n\n\n\nAunt Frances (Stockard Channing) and Aunt Jet (Dianne Wiest) frequently wear clothing and styles that were popular in the early 20th century\, suggesting that they really are much older than they appear to be (as some of the townsfolk imply). \n\n\n\n\nPractical Magic \n\n\n\nFriday\, October 23\, 7:00pm \n\n\n\nSunday\, October 25\, 2:00pm \n\n\n\n1998 | PG-13 | 1 Hr\, 44 Min \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets
