SUMMARY:Miracle | May 8 & 10
DESCRIPTION:Starring Kurt Russell \n\n\n\nBe inspired by the true story of Herb Brooks\, the player-turned-coach who led the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team to victory over the seemingly invincible Soviet squad. \n\n\n\nKurt Russell took a pay cut\, so the 800 – 1000 extras used as the fans at the hockey game could enjoy a full hot meal instead of a brown-bag lunch. \n\n\n\nThe young men chosen to portray the members of Team USA were chosen primarily for their hockey skills\, due to the intense nature of the filming; acting ability was secondary. In fact\, for most of them\, this was their first major film. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhile Al Michaels joined the film to recreate commentary for the games\, Gavin O’Connor decided to use the last ten seconds of Michaels’ original “Do you believe in miracles?” call in the film because he felt he couldn’t ask him to recreate the emotion he experienced at that moment. Thus\, they cleaned up the recording to make the transition to the authentic call as seamless as possible. \n\n\n\nHerb Brooks died in a car accident during principal photography of this film. A dedication is made for him before the ending credits. \n\n\n\nThis film is considered to be one of the most accurate depictions of true events\, including dialogue. According to the actual 1980 USA team\, the only inaccuracies in the film include Herb Brooks attending a Christmas party with the players and giving them nicknames. They also said that Brooks’ language had to be toned down immensely to maintain the film’s PG rating. \n\n\n\nMiracle \n\n\n\n\n\nFriday \, May 8\, 7:30pm \n\n\n\nSunday\, May 10\, 2:00pm \n\n\n\n2004 | Rated PG | 2 Hr\, 15 Min \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets

SUMMARY:The Patriot | May 15 & 17
DESCRIPTION:Starring Mel Gibson\, Heath Ledger\, and Joely Richardson \n\n\n\nPeaceful farmer Benjamin Martin is driven to lead the Colonial Militia during the American Revolution when a sadistic British officer murders his son. \n\n\n\nThe historical accuracy of the costumes and settings were overseen by the Smithsonian Institution. It’s the first time the Institution ever worked directly on the production of a movie. \n\n\n\nThe scene where Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) returns the dogs to General Cornwallis (Tom Wilkinson) may be based on a similar story told about General George Washington. During the Revolutionary War\, Washington reportedly noticed the terrier of a British General wandering the battlefield. He subsequently negotiated a cease-fire\, and both sides stopped firing until the dog was returned to the British commander. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhen teaching Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger how to shoot a muzzle-loading rifle\, technical advisor Mark Baker gave them the advice to “aim small\, miss small\,” meaning that if you aim at a man and miss\, you miss the man\, while if you aim at a button (for instance) and miss\, you still hit the man. Gibson liked this bit of advice so much\, he incorporated it into the movie\, just prior to the ambush scene. \n\n\n\nIn addition to Francis Marion\, a.k.a. The Swamp Fox\, Mel Gibson’s character is also based on the life of South Carolina militia leader General Andrew Pickens. Pickens had his estate torched\, and lost a son\, before he went back into action and led the militia forces at Cowpens. \n\n\n\nThe Patriot \n\n\n\nFriday\, May 15th\, 7:30PMSunday\, May 17th\, 2:00PM \n\n\n\n2000 | Rated ‘R’ | Under 17 not admitted without accompanying parent or guardian. Sorry\, no exceptions | 2 Hr. 45 Min. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets

SUMMARY:The Longest Day | May 22 & 24
DESCRIPTION:Starring John Wayne\, Robert Ryan\, and Robert Mitchum \n\n\n\nThe events of D-Day\, told on a grand scale from both the Allied and German points of view. \n\n\n\nWhile clearing a section of the Normandy beach near Pointe du Hoc\, the crew unearthed a tank that had been buried in the sand since the original invasion. Mechanics cleaned it off\, fixed it up and it was used in the movie as part of the British tank regiment. \n\n\n\nHenry Grace was not an actor when cast as Dwight D. Eisenhower\, but his remarkable resemblance to Eisenhower got him the role. \n\n\n\nAs a 22-year-old private\, Joseph Lowe landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day with the Second Ranger Battalion and scaled the cliffs at Pointe Du Hoc. He scaled those 100-foot cliffs all over again\, for the cameras\, 17 years later. \n\n\n\n\n\nDuring the filming of the landings at Omaha Beach\, the extras appearing as American soldiers didn’t want to jump off the landing craft into the water because they thought it would be too cold. Robert Mitchum (Gen. Norm Cota) was so disgusted with them that he jumped in first\, at which point\, the soldiers had no choice but to follow his example. \n\n\n\nThe Longest Day \n\n\n\nFriday\, May 22nd\, 7:30PMSunday\, May 24th\, 2:00PM \n\n\n\n1962 | Unrated | 2Hr\, 59 Min \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuy Tickets
