SUMMARY:The Longest Day | May 22 & 24
DESCRIPTION:Starring John Wayne\, Robert Ryan\, and Robert Mitchum \n\n\n\nThe events of D-Day\, told on a grand scale from both the Allied and German points of view. \n\n\n\nWhile clearing a section of the Normandy beach near Pointe du Hoc\, the crew unearthed a tank that had been buried in the sand since the original invasion. Mechanics cleaned it off\, fixed it up and it was used in the movie as part of the British tank regiment. \n\n\n\nHenry Grace was not an actor when cast as Dwight D. Eisenhower\, but his remarkable resemblance to Eisenhower got him the role. \n\n\n\nAs a 22-year-old private\, Joseph Lowe landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day with the Second Ranger Battalion and scaled the cliffs at Pointe Du Hoc. He scaled those 100-foot cliffs all over again\, for the cameras\, 17 years later. \n\n\n\n\n\nDuring the filming of the landings at Omaha Beach\, the extras appearing as American soldiers didn’t want to jump off the landing craft into the water because they thought it would be too cold. Robert Mitchum (Gen.
