Starring the Voices of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld and Brian Tyree Henry

Miles Morales catapults across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. When the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles must redefine what it means to be a hero.

After an unexpected debut weekend box office take of $120 million, on 7/4/23, Sony Studios announced that this film had officially become its highest earning animated film with a worldwide box office take of $607 million one month after its release and the figure was still climbing (as the film was still on general release). In comparison, the first film had a final box office of $375 million. Sony’s previous highest earning animated film was The Smurfs (2011), with a total of $563 million. Although the film has yet to earn more than the lowest grossing Sony live action Spider-man film (The Amazing Spider-man 2 (2014), it’s production budget was also considerably lower, making the animated film far more profitable.

Film writers, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, revealed that they told Sony the sequel would be the same size as Into the Spider-Verse, but it ended up having the largest crew of any animated movie ever with around 1,000 people working on it. They added that it has 240 characters and takes place in six universes.

When Miles is rushing to meet with the guidance counselor, he passes his friend Ganke who can be seen hanging out in Miles’ and Ganke’s dorm room playing Spider-Man on his Playstation 5. The game’s version of Spider-Man, played by Yuri Lowenthal, also appears as one of the 240 Spider-Man variants seen throughout this film.
